WATCH: Relive last year’s thrilling Sao Paulo GP as Hamilton recovers to take the fight to Verstappen
Formula 1 returns to Interlagos for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix this weekend, which last year played host to a nail-biting wheel-to-wheel battle between then title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Hamilton had qualified fastest as the Sprint weekend got under way, only for a DRS infringement to send him to the back of the grid, setting the scene for two sensational recovery drives from the Mercedes man.
First, Hamilton worked his way up from 20th to 10th in the 100km dash, then repeated the feat in the main Grand Prix to go from 10th to first, taking victory after a monumental scrap with Verstappen in the closing stages.
Behind them, there were plenty of incidents and overtakes as the Interlagos circuit put on an action-packed show with F1’s Sprint format, which will be in play again for the 2022 running of the event.
