WATCH: Ride onboard with Norris for his spectacular pole position lap in Australia
In the first Qualifying session of 2025, Lando Norris established McLaren as the team to beat once again after he claimed a hard-fought pole position in Australia, pipping his team mate Oscar Piastri to the honour.
The margins separating the field were extremely narrow throughout the Qualifying hour, but it was the Briton who put together the fastest lap of 1m 15.096s as Piastri, an Aussie crowd favourite, slotted in just behind him to lock out the front row for the papaya team.
Norris' first effort in Q3 was deleted for track limits as everyone tried to find time around the circuit, with plenty of mistakes impacting quick runs in the final minutes of the session. His final attempt saw him edge out Piastri to deny him his first career pole position as reigning World Champion Max Verstappen settled for P3.
