Despite missing out on setting a second lap, Max Verstappen’s opening effort in Q3 of Qualifying for the United States Grand Prix was enough to secure him pole position ahead of Lando Norris.
An exciting final few moments played out during Qualifying ahead of the United States Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen holding off a challenge from Lando Norris to secure pole position.
Having topped the timesheets in Q1 and Q2, Verstappen again set the pace when Q3 began. However, after failing to reach the line in time to start his final effort, the Red Bull driver faced a nervous wait to see if his provisional pole lap would remain on top in the closing stages.
Verstappen’s time of 1m 32.510s was ultimately enough for him to hang onto pole, after Norris’ lap fell short by 0.291s.
