WATCH: Verstappen crosses the line to secure a sublime Sprint race win in Shanghai
Max Verstappen emerged as the class of the field during Saturday’s Sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix, beating Lewis Hamilton to victory in a dramatic encounter at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Verstappen completed moves on Fernando Alonso and then Hamilton to work his way into the lead, having cleared Lando Norris when the McLaren driver ran wide during the first lap, before romping away in clear air.

“The first few laps, they were quite hectic,” said Verstappen as he reflected on the race. “They [Hamilton and Alonso] were pushing quite hard up front and of course I had Carlos [Sainz] behind with new tyres, so it was very difficult to keep him behind initially.”
Verstappen’s win means he claimed the maximum eight points on offer and edges further clear of team mate Sergio Perez in the drivers’ standings, with the Mexican following Hamilton home in third.
