Over the 2013 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix weekend the paddock at Austin’s the Circuit of The Americas was literally heaving with famous faces from motorsports, athletics, and the entertainment world.

Mario Andretti was joined by fellow world champions Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, race steward Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve, while from IndyCars came former champion Gil de Ferran, Oriol Servia and Simona De Silvestro, while other familiar racing faces included Ron Dennis and family, Derek Bell, Roberto Moreno, Michael Andretti, Conor Daly, Gunther Steiner, Willy T. Ribbs, and promoter Chris Pook.

Bernie Ecclestone presented his trophy to A1 Racing from Australia as they were crowned F1 in Schools™ world champions.

The F1 in Schools World Finals 2013 was held over the course of four days at the Hyatt Regency, with 38 teams from 22 countries brought together for the biggest challenge of their life, competing for the prestigious Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy and coveted automotive and motorsport engineering scholarships to City University London.

A1 Racing was led by team manager Beau Gieskens, 15, with five team mates, manufacturing engineer Jacqueline Cunningham, 16, marketing manager Luke Meredith, 17, development engineer Ben Marshall, 17, collaboration co-ordinator Sam Young, 16, and design engineer Dylan Sexton, 17.

Several drivers, including Sebastian Vettel, Esteban Gutierrez and Sergio Perez were sporting special helmets for the US race. Perhaps most eye-catching was Lewis Hamilton’s, which featured a design incorporating his musical hero Michael Jackson. Meanwhile, in his annual downtown ‘Will’s Big Bash’, NBC F1 commentator Will Buxton helped to raise a whopping $14,000 for Meals on Wheels in Austin.

From the television and film world came actors Matt LeBlanc, (Friends); Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro) and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl); Gerard Butler (PS I love you); Adrian Grenier, (Entourage); Aldis Hodge, (Leverage); Alex Pettyfer, (I Am Number Four, Beastly, Magic Mike); Billy Burke, (The Twilight Saga, Revolution); David Hasselhoff, (Baywatch, Knight Rider); David Lyons, (Revolution); Edwin Hodge, (NCIS: Los Angeles); Elizabeth Mitchell, (Revolution, V, Lost); Erik Valdez, (General Hospital); Gas Monkey Garage (featured on Fast and Loud reality TV show); Jennie Garth, (90210, Beverly Hills, 90210); Joy Bryant, (Parenthood); Kyle Chandler, (Friday Night Lights); Manu Bennett, (The Hobbit, Arrow); Mark McNair, movie producer; Matt Nordgren, reality TV personality; Nichole Galicia, (Django Unchained); Rick Yune, (Olympus Has Fallen, Hawaii Five-O); Steven Collins, (Revolution, Seventh Heaven); Scott Elrod, (Lone Survivor); Tracy Spiridakos, (Revolution); Val Kilmer, (Top Gun) and famed chef Gordon Ramsey.

Singers and musicians included Danielle Bradbery, winner of ‘The Voice’ and this weekend’s national anthem singer; Fergie and Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas; rapper Pitbull, Australian rock band Sick Puppies, and Sting.

Sportsmen included PGA golfer Ben Crenshaw; Oklahoma University/Seattle Seahawk linebacker Brian Bosworth; CJ Wilson from the Anaheim Angels; DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys; University of Texas/Detriot Lions lineman Doug English; boxer Jake LaMotta; University of Texas /Houston Texans lineman Kasey Studdard; former Dallas Cowboys player Mike Renfro; University of Texas/Houston Oilers lineman Rick Ingraham and Tanner Scheppers of the Texas Rangers.
