Williams confirm Asmer testing role 04 Sep 2003
Williams have confirmed that Estonian driver Marko Asmer has been retained for testing duties for the remainder of this year, with the team also having on option on the teenager for 2004.
Asmer, 19, got his first Williams outing at Vairano earlier this season, when he conducted straight-line development work on the FW25. This was followed by a Barcelona test in early July.
Both sessions clearly impressed Williams, and Asmer now joins Marc Gene as the team's second official test driver. "Marko proved himself to be a keen and competent worker in the car, providing us with some great feedback," said Chief Operations Engineer Sam Michael.
Like the majority of Formula One drivers, Asmer comes from a strong karting background. This year he graduated to single-seaters and is competing in the UK Formula Ford series with Team JLR.
