Liuzzi gets Red Bull call up
|
Reigning Formula 3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi will test for Red Bull Racing in Barcelona next week, the team have confirmed.
Liuzzi, a member of the Red Bull Junior Team driver development programme, will be in action at the Spanish circuit from November 24-26, along with 2004 Jaguar drivers Christian Klien and Bjorn Wirdheim.
It is great to be testing Liuzzi, said Red Bull Racing team principal Tony Purnell. I have known him since his early karting days and I believe he is full of potential for the future.
Liuzzi, who visited the teams Milton Keynes base earlier this week for a seat fitting, commented: Its an exciting opportunity to be testing for Red Bull Racing. They have been very supportive to me and my racing.
The highly-regarded Italian broke the record for the most wins in a season in this years FIA Formula 3000 Championship and went on to secure the title. He has previously karted against the likes of Michael Schumacher and won the Italian Karting Championship in 1993, aged just 11.
This will not be Liuzzis first Formula One test. He was at the wheel for Sauber in September, while his first taste of a Grand Prix car came courtesy of Williams as long ago as November 2002.
