The BAR team completed a three-day exclusive test at Valencia on Thursday, with Jenson Button and Takuma Sato reporting positive results from the session, which focussed on aerodynamic and tyre evaluations ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Preparation work back at the BAR factory meant the Honda-powered team could only run one new 007 machine, along with one of their ’05 concept cars. Despite this and some difficult weather conditions, they successfully completed their planned programme.

"We were able to put some valuable mileage on both cars car this week, running through aerodynamic and tyre programmes in preparation for the start of the season,” confirmed Button. “The wind made the running a little difficult but overall I am happy with the progress made. We'll be back in Valencia next week for one final test before the real action begins in Melbourne."

"We completed a lot of laps this week and are very happy with the results from some intensive engine, tyre and aerodynamic work,” added Sato, who clocked up 145 laps in the 007 on Thursday. “We could only run one new car due to preparations back at the factory for the first race but still the work we achieved was useful. I'm feeling positive about our testing progress as we get so close to the new season."

Sato was joined on Thursday by test driver Anthony Davidson who took over the Concept car from Button. "It was good to get back in the car today and we had a positive test,” he said. “Conditions were better this morning following a couple of windy days so I was able to get results from the long run tyre evaluations. We completed most of our planned programme for the Concept car and are progressing all the time."

BAR will be back at Valencia next week, along with the bulk of their rivals, to complete their pre-season test schedule. Planned revisions to the 007 for that session include a further Honda engine upgrade.
