Jordan hand Yamamoto third-driver chance 01 Sep 2005
Jordan have announced that current Formula Nippon and Super GT Series driver, Sakon Yamamoto, will be the teams Friday driver at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka in October. Yamamoto will have a seat fitting at the Jordan factory next week ahead of a preparatory test at Silverstone in mid September.
I have started my racing driver career aiming at Formula One and I greatly thank Jordan Grand Prix and all the people who have supported me to get this opportunity, said the Japanese star. I will work hard to achieve my goal of a regular seat in Formula One through this opportunity.
Jordan Managing Director, Colin Kolles, added: "Sakon Yamamoto is a very talented driver in Japan at the moment and Im delighted that we are able to offer him his first F1 test and the Friday drive at his home Grand Prix.
Hes come up through the junior categories quickly and with good results so Im optimistic that he will be very significant in the future of Japanese motorsport. I am sure he will do a great job to help the team gathering data to assist with our preparation for the Japanese Grand Prix.
Jordan currently run former Minardi racer Nicolas Kiesa as their third driver.
