Turkey to appeal FIA fine 09 Oct 2006
Turkish Grand Prix organisers are to appeal the US$5 million fine handed out to them by the FIA last month over irregularities with the podium ceremony at this years race.
The record fine came after the FIAs World Motor Sport Council decided there had been breaches of the FIA Statutes, the International Sporting Code and the 2006 Formula One Sporting Regulations.
The breaches related to the Istanbul ceremony, in which Mr Mehmet Ali Talat was invited to present the winners trophy and introduced as president of the Turkish Cypriot state, which is only recognised by Turkey.
The appeal, which has been lodged by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED), will be heard by the International Court of Appeal in Paris on Tuesday, November 7, with a decision expected on November 8.
