Scuderia Toro Rosso’s 2006 challenger, the STR01, made its first public appearance on Thursday morning when it began testing at the Spanish circuit of Jerez. Vitantonio Liuzzi was at the wheel.

Up until now, Toro Rosso, who are owned by Red Bull, have been testing with a revised version of their sister team’s 2005 car, the RB1. However, Formula One regulations currently prevent the use of ‘customer’ chassis, hence the all new machine.

The Cosworth-powered STR01 will be the only car on the 2006 grid to use a V10 engine. While the rest of the field will be running V8s, Toro Rosso - formerly Minardi - will be making use of the clause in the regulations which allows smaller teams to use a rev-limited V10.
