Buemi confirmed as Red Bull test and reserve driver 16 Jan 2008
At the same time as launching their new challenger in Jerez on Wednesday, Red Bull announced the appointment of Sebastien Buemi as the teams test and reserve driver for 2008. Buemi, who will combine his Formula One role with a race seat in GP2, will work alongside the teams race drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber.
This appointment is a big step forward for me, said the 19 year-old. I am delighted and thank Red Bull, which has supported me in the lower formulas since 2005. I will do my best to concentrate on combining my GP2 racing commitment with my duties for Red Bull Racing and I am looking forward to the year ahead.
The young Swiss driver tested for the squad back in July 2007. He also took part in five GP2 events last season, replacing the injured Michael Ammermuller, and finished runner-up in the Formula Three Euroseries. In 2006 he competed in Formula Three, Formula Renault and the Eurocup, while in 2005 he raced in the Formula BMW series, finishing the season second overall after winning seven events.
