Singapore celebrates opening of new pit building 15 Jul 2008
With the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix just over two months away, race organisers have celebrated reaching an important milestone in their preparations, after officially opening the tracks new pit building.
The three-storey structure, which is located along the citys marina promenade, is an integral part of the street circuits infrastructure. While the buildings ground floor will eventually house the Formula One team garages, the second and third levels will feature race control facilities, the media centre, the winners podium and a Paddock Club large enough for up to 4,000 guests.
Even before the launch of the Paddock Club packages, we have had huge interest from the whos who of the Formula One community, explained Colin Syn, Deputy Chairman of Singapore GP. And it is great to have a purpose-built facility to deliver a world-class corporate hospitality that will enable guests to experience the excitement of the Singapore Grand Prix up-close and in-style.
With the building work complete, organisers are now free to start work on the interior of the 350-metre long pit facility ahead of Septembers event, which will be Formula One racing's first-ever night race.
