Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen will no longer be driving at this week’s Silverstone test following tweaks to their respective teams’ driver programmes.

Webber had been scheduled to try out the revised Pirelli tyres on Thursday afternoon, but his slot will now be taken by Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo who was previously due to test the RB9 on Wednesday afternoon. Antonio Felix da Costa will now continue in the Red Bull for the entirety of Wednesday, as well as on Thursday morning.

As before, Carlos Sainz Junior and Sebastian Vettel will split Red Bull driving duties on Friday.

Lotus will hand Raikkonen’s Friday slot to the man who opened the test for them, development driver Nicolas Prost, after deciding that the Finn would be under-utilised in terms of the work he could do. Davide Valsecchi will drive on Thursday, as planned.

"Once details of what race drivers were allowed to do here became apparent, we would have only been able to conduct a very limited programme with Kimi,” explained Lotus’ trackside operations director, Alan Permane.

“If we were to run him, it would compromise the other development work we want to do with the car here. By running Nico again we’ll be able to build on the work already carried out and hopefully be in the best position to develop the E21 ahead of Budapest, whilst also conducting the necessary tyre testing for Pirelli."

The test, which got underway at Silverstone today, runs until July 19.
