Aston Martin have continued their rapid recruitment programme, announcing on Thursday morning that they have appointed ex-Red Bull designer Andrew Alessi as Head of Technical Operations – the second major hire the Silverstone team have made from Red Bull’s ranks in the past week.

Alessi, who has had several years of experience in Red Bull's aerodynamics department, joins Aston Martin today, July 1, and is their latest new recruit after they poached ex-Red Bull aero chief Dan Fallows and pried Engineering Director Luca Furbatto away from Alfa Romeo, as part of a major technical reshuffle.

"Two weeks ago we announced the hiring of Luca Furbatto as our new Engineering Director, who will start work for us in due course. Last week Dan Fallows’ forthcoming arrival as our new Technical Director was also made public," said Aston Martin F1 CEO Otmar Szafnauer.

“Today, Andrew Alessi is added to the impressive list of our senior technical/engineering hirings, as Head of Technical Operations. Ours is a great team, and it always has been."

Aston Martin promoted former Technical Director Andrew Green to the role of Chief Technical Officer in June, and said that they were rivalling the best teams with their approach to hiring and structure.

Alessi was said to have made a "significant contribution" to Red Bull's aero department before joining Aston Martin.

“Like everyone in and around Formula 1, I have seen and been impressed by the evident ambition of the team I am joining, led as it is now by Lawrence Stroll, and I am very much looking forward to working with Otmar Szafnauer as well as the very capable technical and engineering-focused members of the senior management team," said Alessi ahead of the Austrian GP.

“Now is a fantastic time to be joining a team that is growing fast, and I am ready to get stuck in straight away so as to contribute to the process of making the significant aerodynamic and operational improvements that we need in order to win consistently in the future.”
