BEYOND THE GRID: Christian Horner on masterminding Red Bull’s return to the top

Christian Horner has experienced it all in his role as Red Bull team boss since the company entered F1 back in 2005. Now, in the latest episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast, he takes a moment to reflect on the journey so far...
It’s been a particularly dramatic 12 months for Red Bull, given their fierce battle with Mercedes throughout the 2021 season, which saw Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton go head-to-head in a breathless exchange for overall honours.
Now, Horner tells host Tom Clarkson all about that incredible title fight from Red Bull’s perspective, while sharing his thoughts on rival team boss Toto Wolff, and the intense Abu Dhabi season finale.
Horner also discusses whether Verstappen approaches racing Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc differently to how he takes on Hamilton, what he thinks of Daniel Ricciardo’s early exit from McLaren, and why Red Bull decided now was the right time to set up their own engine division.
In a wide-ranging chat, Horner goes on to reveal what happened to the proposed Porsche partnership and covers some of the company’s non-F1 projects – which include designing a submarine – as well as how it feels to have led the team back to the brink of championship glory once again.
