McLaren and Eric Boullier (FRA) McLaren Racing Director celebrate at the raft race at Formula One

Sunday's Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada 2017 had no shortage of drama on track, but there was also plenty going on behind the scenes in the build-up to the race weekend. Here's our round-up of just a few of the highlights...

Family affair

It's always good to remember your roots - especially when your dad was an F1 driver too! Kevin shares a treasured memory with Jan.

Sticking your oar in

With news that the famous F1 teams raft race was being revived in Montreal (more on that later), the Red Bull drivers decided they had to go one better and include the word 'rapid' in their own off-shore excursion. To the Max!

Holy Zamboni!

It never fails: show an F1 driver a new motorised vehicle and he just has to try it - even if it moves at a snail-like pace as it resurfaces ice! This was an added bonus for Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas when he went to indulge his love of ice hockey with the Montreal Canadiens.

Child's play

Racing in your home town is always a special experience, but Williams' Lance Stroll made sure it was also special for some of his younger fans.

Training tips from Toro Rosso

Remember that aforementioned F1 teams raft race? Seems one team might have been taking it a little more seriously than their rivals.

Mini me

Would the real Fernando Alonso please step forward? Spain's most famous F1 driver poses with his remarkably similar woolen wannabe.

Who let the dogs... in?

The F1 paddock plays host to many VIP guests, but these might just be the only two with four legs!

Boxing clever

Want to admire the spectacular Montreal skyline from your rooftop terrace? Why not kill two birds with one stone and combine with some early morning sparring practice?

Celebrity selfie

Lewis Hamilton made the most of his North American sojourn by catching a basketball game with a certain Braziian footballing legend.

Lewis goes postal

You know you've made it when you start receiving mail with your own face staring back at you from the top right-hand corner!

Honoured to be chosen amongst the legends of the Canadian GP. Cool to have my own stamp in this collection🙌🏾 #LH44Stamp #Blessed #CanadianGP pic.twitter.com/mbW9v7YSNM

Row, row, row your boat

We think Haas's Romain Grosjean may have misread the memo about the F1 raft race...

Bring back Button?

It seems Jenson Button's candid radio conversation with Fernando Alonso in Monaco made quite an impression on these Canadian Hamilton fans.

Game on

It was a tough Sunday on track for Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat. Perhaps he had more luck in this encounter with girlfriend Kelly Piquet.

A magic memory

Hollywood icon Michael Douglas helps present Fernando Alonso with a little memento of his amazing Indy 500 debut.

The name's the same...

Red Bull are no stranger to successful Sebs in their garage, though this one's expertise relates to snowboarding rather that steering F1 cars - Canada's Olympian and X Games silver medallist Sebastien Toutant.

Felipe's superfan

Hero worship doesn't come much bigger than this - and Felipe Massa looks suitably impressed.

If the cap fits...

'Captain Steiner', aka Haas team principal Guenther, at least looks the part ahead of Saturday evening's raft race in Montreal.

Brawn the brains of the outfit

He may have won multiple Formula 1 world championships, but success on the water was a little harder to come by for F1 sporting chief Ross Brawn and his band of merry men.

McLaren's winning return

Fernando Alonso said a McLaren victory this season would keep him at the team for 2018. Does this count?

Canada's 'star' guest

He brings something special to every role he plays - and Sir Patrick Stewart certainly brought an element of the surreal to Sunday's podium interviews. He was even game enough to indulge Daniel Ricciardo in his infamous race-boot ritual.

Hulkenberg comes up short

Though to be fair, Orlando Magic NBA star Bismack Biyombo is 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) tall!

Renault recruit new fan

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard got her first taste of F1 racing in Montreal - and we're guessing she'll be back for more.

Not 'Where's Wally?'...

...but 'Find Fernando!' Okay, the green arrow helps slightly, but the sight of the two-time champion climbing into the crowds to give away his gloves after his late-race retirement is certainly an unusual one.

Super Swedes

Sauber's Marcus Ericsson had some special home support in Montreal courtesy of comptriot Erik Karlsson, captain of the Ottawa Senators National Hockey League team.

Bring on Baku

Red Bull share the sun going down on the Canadian Grand Prix. Just two weeks before it rises again in Azerbaijan!
