GOOD LAP vs GREAT LAP: Watch how to nail a lap of Istanbul Park with Charles Leclerc
Istanbul Park returned to the calendar last year, for the first time since 2011. What followed was a weekend full of excitement, with rain arriving in qualifying to reward Racing Point’s Lance Stroll with a first ever pole position. But on race day, it was Lewis Hamilton who came to the fore as he secured his record-equalling seventh drivers’ championship with a second win at this circuit.
Despite the slippery conditions in 2020, this circuit remains a big favourite with the drivers. Turn 8 is the place to watch, as the drivers try and navigate an incredibly fast corner featuring multi-apexes and plenty of bumps. Add in the infamous Turn 12 which has seen more than its fair share of crashes, and it's easy to see why this track is so popular.
Charles Leclerc had his first go around here as an F1 driver for Ferrari last year, and he soon found a rhythm as he showed a decent turn of pace in the dry FP2 session. While qualifying in the wet didn’t go the way of the Scuderia, Leclerc bounced back impressively on Sunday to narrowly miss out on a podium spot.
