Max Verstappen produced a dominant display in Imola to seal his second victory of the season ahead of team mate Sergio Perez, leading a Red Bull one-two at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Verstappen led off the line and rarely looked troubled as the reigning world champion came home 16.527s ahead of Perez in second. Lando Norris took a fortuitous P3, after Charles Leclerc spun into the barriers at Variante Alta chasing Perez for second place. And while the championship leader was able to continue, he was forced to pit. However, he was able to recover to take sixth position.

Ferrari’s miserable day was earlier made worse by Carlos Sainz being forced to retire after the Spaniard made contact with Daniel Ricciardo at Tamburello on Lap 1, leaving Sainz stuck in the gravel.

It was a day of contrasting fortunes at Mercedes, with George Russell coming home in P4, while Lewis Hamilton was stuck in a lowly P13.

After Sainz, Fernando Alonso was the other driver to retire early, with the Alpine racer sustaining damage to his sidepods after making contact with Mick Schumacher on the first lap.
