RACE DEBRIEF

Logan Sargeant showed the difference a week can make in Formula 3, taking his first win in Race 1 at Silverstone on the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix weekend.

In Round 4 last time out, the PREMA racer qualified on pole, but ended up in third place at the chequered flag.

Qualifying on pole again for Round 5 at the same venue, he spoke of lessons learned in the press conference, and did not disappoint. The American ran from lights-to-flag to take not only the win, but also the championship lead, at the expense of team mate Oscar Piastri.

HWA RACELAB’s Jake Hughes took his first podium of the season, finishing 1.5s off Sargeant in second, while, Red Bull junior Liam Lawson brushed off a difficult start to the race to hang on to a podium place and keep his own championship hopes alive.

Piastri may have lost the championship lead, but the Australian will at least be pleased to have made up four places from 11th. The Renault junior had retired from qualifying early on Friday with mechanical issues, but clawed his way up to seventh in Race 1.

After post-race penalties for Clement Novalak and Matteo Nannini, Ben Barnicoat will look to become the seventh different winner of the season when he starts on reverse grid pole in Race 2 on Sunday at 0845am local time.
