Schumacher to miss second practice at Suzuka after FP1 crash forces chassis change
Mick Schumacher will miss out on second practice for the Japanese Grand Prix, Haas have confirmed, with the team forced change the chassis on his car after he crashed out at the end of FP1.
Schumacher spun off after the chequered flag had dropped in Friday’s opening session at Suzuka, sliding through the gravel at the exit of Turn 7 and slamming into the barriers – causing significant damage to the front-end of the VF-22.
With a two-hour break between practice sessions, Haas subsequently took to social media to confirm that Schumacher will not be able to participate in FP2 due to a required chassis change.

Haas will therefore field only one car, for Kevin Magnussen, during the 90-minute afternoon session – which will no longer feature the planned 2023 Pirelli dry tyre testing due to the poor weather conditions.
After two seasons at Haas, Schumacher’s future with the team, and in F1 as a whole, remains up in the air, as the wait goes on to see how the final 2023 driver market developments shake out.
