WATCH: 5 of the most chaotic race restarts in F1 history
After drama during the restarts at Mugello, where only 12 cars finished the Tuscan Grand Prix, we look back at some other incredible examples of race restart mayhem.
There are few moments evoking more tension, suspense and excitement in F1 than a race restart. At Mugello, we had two restarts and the drama to match, while the Italian Grand Prix at Monza also sported a mid-race standing restart – and that was voted your favourite race of the season so far!
But this isn't a new phenomenon. How about the 1987 Austrian Grand Prix, where Nigel Mansell won after the race had to be restarted twice for two multi-car crashes?
It seems the number eight isn't exactly a lucky one when it comes to restarts, however, as Portugal 1988 features before the incredible barrel-rolling madness of the 1998 Australian Grand Prix storms into view. Of course, we also relive the chaos of last week's race at Mugello...
