RACE DEBRIEF

Pierre Gasly’s first proper outing in the new AlphaTauri AT01 didn’t go quite to plan on the morning of Day 2 of 2020 pre-season testing, with the Frenchman spinning his heavily aero raked car at Turn 9 of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya within minutes of the session start.

Twelve months ago, Gasly suffered a huge crash at the same corner while driving for Red Bull, skipping across the gravel before burying the car in the wall.

There were no such dramas this time, however, with Gasly spinning the car at slow speed as he tried to get some heat into his Pirellis around a chilly Barcelona track, before getting back onto the circuit and retreating to the pits for checks.

Gasly will now be looking to build on a positive Day 1 for the newly-minted AlphaTauri – the F1 team formerly known as Toro Rosso – after Daniil Kvyat finished fifth on the timesheets on Wednesday.
