Ferrari shot out of the blocks after several years in the doldrums, taking a Charles Leclerc-led one-two finish at the season opener in Bahrain, before the Monegasque made it two wins from three races at the Australian Grand Prix.
But although he and Ferrari were riding high in the early stages, Red Bull were working night and day to fix their reliability problems – and when they did, Max Verstappen was almost unstoppable, racing to a record 15 victories in a single season as he wrapped up his second World Championship in dominant fashion.
Red Bull's first constructors' title since 2013 soon followed, but there were plenty of other highlights too, including Carlos Sainz and George Russell taking their first wins in the sport, Kevin Magnussen sealing that unforgettable maiden pole for Haas in Sao Paulo – and plenty of incredible racing, including multi-car scraps at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring that suggested the new rules had delivered in spades.
