Scoring not just a maiden Formula 2 victory, but also a first career win since the 2019 Macau Grand Prix, MP Motorsport rookie Richard Verschoor produced a controlled performance to take victory in the second Sprint Race at Silverstone.

The Dutchman enjoyed a tranquil run from lights-to-flag in the blistering heat, looking entirely untroubled by the more experienced duo of Marcus Armstrong and Dan Ticktum, who had to settle for second and third.

It wasn’t such a productive afternoon for the Ferrari junior, who was unable to follow up his Sprint Race 1 win with further points, spinning from ninth on the penultimate lap and dropping back to P15.

Meanwhile, Alpine test driver Guanyu Zhou lost further ground in the title fight as well. The UNI-Virtuosi racer had started from the back of the grid following his Race 1 retirement and despite making up an impressive 11 places to 11th, was unable to trouble the points’ positions.

Piastri will look to further cement his position at the top of the standings when he starts from pole in the Feature Race on Sunday, while Zhou will be looking to claw back some points from second place. Action gets underway 1050 local time, the grid set by Friday’s Qualifying session.
