‘I’m open to everything’ – Alonso gives update regarding F1 future beyond 2026
Fernando Alonso has opened up about the possibility of leaving F1 when his contract expires at the end of 2026.

Fernando Alonso admits that he is "open to everything" regarding his future in Formula 1 after a difficult start to the 2026 campaign with Aston Martin.
Ahead of this weekend's Miami Grand Prix, the two-time World Champion spoke about the possibility of leaving the sport but admitted that no decision would be made prior to the summer break at the end of July.
"I'm not sure," said Alonso on Thursday's media day in Miami when asked if he would leave F1 when his current contract expires at the end of this season.
"I'm open to everything. I think until probably after the summer break I will not really sit down with the team and make the decision. We need to see also how the car improves and how we see things into next year. I'm very relaxed.
"I will continue racing, if it's not F1 I will do Dakar [Rally]. I said many times it's a challenge that I want to take, winning endurance racing, F1 and rally. That will probably be unprecedented for any racing driver in the past, so it's something that is very appealing.

"I will keep active even if I stop F1. I'm also linked with this team, with this project. I want to succeed here, behind the wheel or not behind the wheel, you will see me in the paddock even if I stop racing."
The 44-year-old previously took a sabbatical from F1 between 2018 and 2021, during which time he won the Le Mans 24 Hours twice and a sole World Endurance Championship title with Toyota.
He also competed in the 2020 Dakar Rally with the Japanese manufacturer ahead of a possible return to the off-road endurance event after he calls time on his F1 career.
Alonso also became a father for the first time earlier this year and admits that it has had an impact on what he considers doing with his career.
"I have some thoughts, I cannot lie," he said. "It does change the way you see life but I have to say it's going in the other direction.

"I want to race, and he sees me racing, but until he's aware of things, maybe it's a couple of years, and I don't want to race four or five years.
"I will like not to stop before he's in the paddock or sits in my car, these kind of things. Moments that you will remember all your life. It does change to be a father."
The 2026 season has been difficult for Alonso and Aston Martin so far, with the car suffering from reliability issues that means the Spaniard has only finished in one of the three Grands Prix so far this season ahead of Miami this weekend.
He added: "We have a tough start to the season but we are all embracing this challenge. We are together on this, Aston Martin and Honda. Hopefully we can see some results and start having fun on the weekends."
