Lawson to start from the back of the grid at Monza after engine penalty

Liam Lawson has become the latest driver set to start from the back of the grid at the Italian Grand Prix due to his Red Bull being fitted with new power unit components.

A document released by the FIA confirms that the RB22 has taken on several new parts, including a sixth internal combustion engine, turbocharger and exhaust set, as well as its fourth MGU-K and seventh PU-ANC.

With these all exceeding the allocated number for each, Lawson will receive a grid penalty – meaning that he joins Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and Williams’ Alex Albon in starting from the back.

The allocation refers to parts used for the Red Bull usually driven by Isack Hadjar, with Lawson continuing to substitute while the Frenchman continues his rehabilitation from a wrist injury.

Yuki Tsunoda, meanwhile, is again sitting in for Lawson at Racing Bulls.

It marks the second consecutive outing in the RB22 for Lawson, who claimed points with a P7 finish last time out in Zandvoort.
