Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg made a fast and furious start to the Miami Grand Prix weekend as he stormed to second on the timesheets but then crashed out of opening practice in dramatic style.
Making his first appearance at the Miami International Autodrome, the German drifted wide at Turn 3 shortly after the halfway mark in FP1, lost control of his VF-23 and slid helplessly into the concrete wall.
FORMULA WHY: What are the reasons behind the US hosting three F1 races in 2023?
Having initially looked at home by slotting between the Red Bull drivers in the early running, Hulkenberg swore over the radio as he came to a halt amid a pool of debris – mechanics now facing a hefty repair job ahead of second practice.
