With all 20 cars circulating as the Marina Bay Street Circuit surface ramped up at the tail-end of Q1, Stroll was pushing hard to earn a berth in Q2 when he suffered a snap of oversteer after running over the kerbs at the final turn.

Stroll on his Q1 crash: ’I pushed in the last corner and tried to make up some time – it didn’t work’

Speaking to the media after returning from a check at the circuit’s medical centre, Stroll confirmed “I’m okay, everything’s okay” – before explaining what had led to the crash.

“It was really bad,” he said. “We just had a very bad out-lap with traffic, no temperature in the tyres, I had just no grip out there the whole session. In the end, I saw we were going out, so I just pushed in the last corner and tried to make up some time but it didn’t work.
