Max Verstappen made a strong start as the Chinese Grand Prix got underway, while Fernando Alonso caught the eye by slotting into second place.
As Verstappen surged ahead off the line, Alonso looked racy from P3 and pulled off an impressive overtake around the outside of Perez into Turn 1. Lando Norris also looked to get involved but was ultimately unable to find a way past the Red Bull.

Further back in the field, the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had a difficult start, with the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg managing to get ahead before Leclerc succeeded in overtaking the German as the lap wore on.
Meanwhile home favourite Zhou Guanyu made a move on Kevin Magnussen towards the rear of the pack, while Lewis Hamilton lost another place after a disappointing qualifying left him back in 18th on the grid.
