Reigning champion Verstappen reveals new helmet colours for title-defending season

2021 F1 champion Max Verstappen has revealed the helmet that he’ll sport in 2022, as he seeks to defend his maiden title.
The Red Bull racer showed off the new lid on social media, with Verstappen set to use a predominantly white and gold variation on his traditional helmet design, capped off with a golden lion on top – and, critically, a gold star at the back of the helmet representing his title win.
The new helmet will also feature the number one, with Verstappen having announced that he would run the number in favour of his usual #33 this season. In doing so, Verstappen will become the first champion to run #1 consistently since Sebastian Vettel used it in 2014, the first season where drivers could choose their own numbers.
Verstappen, meanwhile, will get his first taste of Red Bull’s all-new 2022 car on February 23, when pre-season running begins at Spain’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
