Silverstone – where it all began: A look at what makes F1’s very first race track so special

The very first Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix took place at Silverstone 70 years ago this year.

The sport is celebrating that milestone with the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at the track today, and ahead of the race F1's digital presenter Will Buxton has narrated the video above – a short guide to the enduring corners which have made Silverstone a circuit like no other.

Will takes a look at all the famous hallmarks of the track, and the key moments of history that each one has hosted. Click the video player above to watch.

That first race back in 1970 was won by Giuseppe Farina – but how much do you know about F1's first winner and first world champion? Allow F1 Hall of Fame writer David Tremayne to give you a flavour of the Italian here.
