WATCH: From their Indianapolis scrap to their Montreal contests – Alonso and Hamilton's best battles so far

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have been going wheel-to-wheel in Formula 1 for nearly two decades. And after some intense contests this year, we thought it would be a great time to look back on some of their most memorable battles from over the years.

The pair have had a number of contentious moments, notably back in 2007 when they were team mates at McLaren during Hamilton’s rookie season, and their battle for the lead at Indianapolis lives long in the memories of plenty.

They also went toe-to-toe when the Spaniard was at Ferrari, and in Hamilton’s first season at Mercedes in 2013, as the pair battled for position in the races in Melbourne, Germany, and in Montreal – where they even made slight contact.

And even in less competitive machinery, Alonso has always looked to be a foil in Hamilton’s plans. He did just that driving for McLaren at the 2017 Mexico City Grand Prix, and for Alpine at the chaotic 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.
