“That’s a stonking lap. You’ve outqualified Mr Hamilton. George Russell: P2” – the words of race engineer James Urwin over the radio after Russell took an astonishing second on the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix last month.
Stonking it was, but just how did Russell manage to wrestle the unfancied Williams FW43B onto the front row, ahead of all the other drivers bar polesitter Max Verstappen?
