WATCH: Hamilton brings out the Safety Car after spinning and beaching his car in the Austin gravel
Lewis Hamilton’s United States Grand Prix was cut short by a disastrous spin into the gravel at the Circuit of The Americas on just the third lap.
The accident happened at Turn 19 and appeared almost identical to his Mercedes team mate George Russell's error in qualifying on Saturday, when a snap of oversteer sent him spinning into the barriers.
After improving from P17 to P12 in a promising start to the Grand Prix, Hamilton managed to avoid hitting the wall following his spin but was unable to continue, emerging from the car uninjured.
The Safety Car was brought out for the first time since the Canadian Grand Prix while the W15 was rescued from the gravel.
