Turkey’s Istanbul Park is where Lewis Hamilton’s journey to becoming a seven-time Formula 1 champion ended. But in a way, it’s where it began too, with the circuit the backdrop for a coming-of-age drive for Hamilton in GP2 back in 2006 that has since become the stuff of legend.
Under pressure in the drivers’ championship at that point of the season from rival Nelson Piquet Junior, Hamilton’s performance in the Turkish Sprint Race was otherworldly, as he spun to near the back of the pack, only to go on a rampage through the field that saw him climb from P19 to finish second at the flag.
