WATCH: Lance Stroll brings out the red flags with Q1 crash in Mexico City GP qualifying
Share
Lance Stroll brought out the red flags in the first few minutes of qualifying in Mexico City after he lost control of his car at the final corner at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Early in Q1 he got on the power coming out of Turn 17, but skewed into the barriers on the outside of the corner, the Aston Martin snapping into the wall and sustaining significant damage – as you can see in the video above.
He confirmed he was unhurt over the radio – he was later given the all clear after being taken to the medical centre for checks – as race control threw the red flags to halt the session with 10m 58s left on the clock.
The Aston Martin mechanics have plenty of work to do to replair the car for tomorrow's race – though Stroll was already due to start at the back of the grid after being hit with a penalty for taking new power unit elements at this race.

"It was fine, I just was a bit too wide on the dirt so that's what caused me to lose it," he explained once he was out of the car. "Just for the mechanics and everyone it's a big job. It's a bit of a shame, I would have still liked to go through Q1 and see how the car felt. We're starting from the back and we'll see what we can do tomorrow."
