Daniel Ricciardo hit the ground running in his first appearance for McLaren at pre-season testing, with the Australian banging in the quickest time in the first session of the three-day 2021 test at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Ricciardo was behind the wheel of McLaren’s MCL35M, the first McLaren to feature a Mercedes power unit since 2014. And that Mercedes grunt was sufficient to put Ricciardo at the top of the time sheets after the first session in Bahrain, as he stopped the clocks with a 1m 32.203s – 0.028s up on AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly.
