Sakhir stats - Rosberg moves level with Moss

03 Apr 2016

A decent getaway put Rosberg in front in Bahrain, and from there he didn’t look back as he extended his win streak - and moved level with a legend…
  • With his first ever victory in Bahrain, Nico Rosberg moved onto 16 career wins, equalling Sir Stirling Moss’s long-standing record as the driver who’s won the most Grands Prix without winning the world title.

  • However, Rosberg has now won five consecutive Grands Prix, dating back to Mexico last year and in a good omen for the German all seven previous drivers to win five straight races ended that particular season as world champion…
  • Rosberg’s streak of five race wins also matches team mate Lewis Hamilton’s best ever victory streak in F1. In fact, only Michael Schumacher (seven), Alberto Ascari (seven) and Sebastian Vettel (nine) have won more times consecutively.

  • For the second successive year – and for the fifth time since 2008 - Kimi Raikkonen finished second in Sakhir. The Finn now has eight Bahrain podium finishes to his name – three more than Hamilton, who has the next most.
  • Despite having never driven the MP4-31 before this weekend, McLaren rookie Stoffel Vandoorne became the first Belgian to score points in F1 since Thierry Boutsen finished fifth for Ligier in Australia in 1992. He’s also the first McLaren driver to score on his debut since Kevin Magnussen finished third in Australia in 2014.

  • Thanks to Romain Grosjean’s fifth place finish – his fifth points finish in a row - Haas became the first American team to score points in two consecutive races since Alan Jones finished fourth and sixth in Italy and Belgium in 1986 for the similarly named (but completely unrelated) Team Haas.

  • A suspected engine failure on the formation lap meant that Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel failed to take the start of a Grand Prix for the first time in his 160-race career.

  • For the second successive race, Williams got both cars home in the points. Mercedes are the only other team to have acheived that feat this season.
