Madrid previously hosted Formula 1 around 40 years ago at Jarama, 30 km north of the city. The far more central Madring – the new purpose-built venue will be just a short ride on public transport – is set for its debut in 2026.

Spectacular, if the plans are anything to go by. Using both public roads and private land, Madring will combine a street-circuit and permanent set-up feel, along similar lines to the Miami International Autodrome. Its 22 corners are varied in nature and the straights will see cars reach 340 kph. On top of that expect some dramatic elevation changes and the longest banked turn on the F1 calendar!

The Grand Prix aside, Madrid is an extraordinary city, with colourful street markets, a world-class art scene and incredible museums. It’s among the leafiest cities in Europe, with a plethora of open spaces, such as the Madrid Rio and the Retiro, along with countless hip cafes, traditional tapas bars, and charming alfresco squares. And if that’s not enough, there are more cloudless days per year – around 350 – than almost any other city in the world.

Fans look set to be spoilt for choice on this front, but one surefire winner has to be the semicircular Turn 12, aptly named 'La Monumental'. A true challenge for the drivers, it will stretch half a kilometre with 24% banking, and around 45,000 spectators will watch as the cars race through it for around six seconds.
