F1 EXPLAINS: The incredible logistics of F1 and how the sport moves more sustainably than ever around the world
Each Formula 1 outfit requires a vast amount of items to compete, and on the latest episode of the F1 Explains podcast, the team take a closer look at the behind-the-scenes logistics involved in moving these parts from race to race.
New-for-2023, F1 Explains is hosted by Katie Osborne and Christian Hewgill and sees the pair answering a different set of questions each week, with the aim of giving fans the inside line about how F1 really works.
From priceless cars and the team’s headquarters through to tyres, fuel and the Team Principal’s favourite coffee, all of these assets are required at each venue the sport visits across the globe.
So what are the logistics involved in such a tight deadline task, and how is this being carried out more sustainably than ever before?
Joining Katie and Christian to provide the answers are guests Paul Fowler, DHL Vice President of Global Motorsport, and Giorgia Tirabassi, DHL Trackside Co-ordinator.
The pair join the podcast to explain how DHL – Formula 1's Global Logistics Partner – gets F1 from track to track, the behind-the-scenes work involved in making sure that each squad has everything they need in time to compete and much more.
Alongside this, every Formula 1 team has its own logistics staff and Alfa Romeo's Deputy Head of Race Part Logistics, Josef Pfandl, explains how he moves tens of thousands of parts from race to race. Katie and Christian also learn about how F1 team motorhomes are transported, and what it's like to drive a truck packed with invaluable F1 equipment across Europe.
