Formula 1 is preparing for the 18th Portuguese Grand Prix to be held since 1958 – with the race having provided some iconic moments since its first inclusion on the calendar.

Located just west of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Estoril was the site of Niki Lauda claiming his third and final world championship in 1984, winning out from McLaren team mate Alain Prost by just half a point – while a year later, Ayrton Senna would secure his first race victory at the track in appalling conditions.

A return to the calendar and a move to the undulating Portimao track, meanwhile, saw the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix deliver a classic – with Kimi Raikkonen stunning fans with his fantastic opening lap, while former team mates and foes Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez showed they’d buried the hatchet with a respectful and balletic display of side-by-side racing.
