Leclerc and Alonso receive grid penalties at COTA

Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso have taken new engine components and will therefore drop down on the grid for the 2022 United States Grand Prix.
Leclerc has received a 10-place grid penalty in Austin as Ferrari have fitted to his F1-75 the sixth of three allocated internal combustion engines (ICE) and the sixth of three allocated turbochargers.

Alonso will be demoted five places on the grid at the Circuit of The Americas as Alpine have fitted to his car a sixth ICE. Along with the two-time champion, Sergio Perez and Zhou Guanyu will both drop five places on the grid having taken new ICEs on Friday.
Alonso's team mate Esteban Ocon, who qualified 17th, will start the race from the pit lane after taking his sixth ICE, fourth energy store and fourth control electronics in Parc Ferme. On Sunday it was also announced that AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda has a five-place grid penalty after a gearbox change.
The FIA have implemented clarified rules on engine penalties beginning from this weekend's United States Grand Prix after confusion in Italy, where nine drivers took engine components outside the pool of their respective allocations.
