Norris eyeing big points haul at happy hunting ground Bahrain as McLaren’s fight for P3 hots up
With just three races left of the 2020 F1 season, Lando Norris is raring to “give it everything” in the fight for P3 in the constructors’ championship, beginning with two back-to-back races at a track that has been a strong venue for McLaren in the past...
It was in Bahrain that Norris finished sixth for Mclaren last year to score hs first ever F1 points, and the team took a double-points finish in 2018 with Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso at the wheel. This time, they’ll need as many points as they can get in the battle for P3 as they currently sit just five points behind Racing Point and 13 ahead of Renault.
“The circuit in Bahrain usually makes for some good wheel-to-wheel racing with plenty of chances to overtake, especially with the three DRS zones," said Norris. "Looking back at last year, Bahrain was one of my best races and it’s where I scored my first points in Formula 1.
“Hopefully we can continue to score some important points this weekend and kick off the triple-header strong.”
This most unusual of F1 seasons began with a triple-header, and it was in the first race in Austria that Norris clinched his first career podium. And he’s hoping to begin this triple-header with a bang having finished eighth last time out in Turkey.
“We’re ending the season just like we started it, with one final triple-header, and I can’t wait get back into the rhythm of racing back-to-back again,” he added.
“It’s definitely going to be a tough challenge as we haven’t had a triple-header in a while, but we’re going to give it everything. Turkey showed that we’re still in the fight and anything can happen. We just need to make every session count and most of all focus on ourselves.”
The drivers will tackle the Sakhir Circuit this weekend, before racing on the 'outer circuit' at the same venue a week later, before heading to Abu Dhabi for the season finale.
