REVEALED: See what really happened in Perez and Ocon’s FP1 collision with new onboard footage
Technical issues meant that F1 fans and commentators alike were largely in the dark about the Free Practice 1 collision between Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that saw both drivers suffer damage to their cars… until now that is.
Unearthed onboard footage from Ocon’s A521 has revealed what really happened between the pair, with the video above showing Ocon keeping well to the left of the track as Perez approaches on a fast lap.
But as the former team mates head side by side into Imola’s Villeneuve chicane, Perez’s Red Bull moves across the front of Ocon’s car, causing damage to its right front, while Perez suffered a puncture that left him stranded on track – with both drivers losing valuable running time as their cars were recovered to the pits.
The stewards later looked into the incident but ruled that no further action was required. See what you make of the collision in the video up top...
