Race tracks will soon be echoing to the sound of F1 engines once again, and in great news for motorsport fans, Formula 2 and Formula 3 will also be back to add to the racing action.

The two junior categories – the next rungs on the ladder below Formula 1 – will support F1 at each of the eight rounds announced on Tuesday, beginning with Austria on the weekend of July 3-5.

There are no changes to the formats of either championship, with both set to follow their usual pattern of two races per weekend, with the second of each featuring a reversed grid based on the finishing order of the first. Championship points will also be handed out as per usual.

There is huge excitement surrounding both championships this year, with a wealth of young driving talent on display.

Mick Schumacher is one of many exciting talents on the F2 grid this year

The F2 grid boasts no fewer than five Ferrari affiliated young drivers, including Mick Schumacher (returning for a second campaign) who will be partnered at Prema by fellow FDA driver (and last year’s F3 champion) Robert Shwartzman. Marcus Armstrong, Giuliano Alesi and Callum Ilot make up the quintet.

Renault meanwhile are represented by their young guns Guanyu Zhou and Christian Lundgaard, while Williams have Jack Aitken and Roy Nissany flying the flag for them.

There are more F1-affiliated drivers and big names in F3 too, with another Schumacher – David, son of F1 racer Ralf – and Enzo Piquet amongst the names that jump off the page. F1 Esports graduate Igor Fraga will also be on the grid.

The junior categories have never failed to deliver incredible action – expect more of the same in 2020.
