Charles Leclerc put in a great performance on Saturday afternoon at Monza to seal pole position ahead of rival Max Verstappen, ahead of tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix.
Leclerc crossed the line to set a time of 1m 20.161s in front of the tifosi, with nearest challenger Verstappen 0.145s behind. Carlos Sainz, in the other Ferrari, was third fastest, 0.268s of the Monegasque.
Sergio Perez was fourth quickest in the session, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in fifth and sixth, respectively.
The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo set times good enough for P7 and P8 respectively, while Pierre Gasly was ninth ahead of Fernando Alonso – who failed to set a time. The above order is set to change, meanwhile, once a host of grid penalties are applied.
