Perez says he's keeping 'all the doors open' as he's quizzed on possibility of 2021 Red Bull switch
Even though he’s currently without a seat on the 2021 grid, Racing Point’s Sergio Perez cut a relaxed figure at the Nurburgring with just seven races left of the 2020 campaign to run, saying he's in no rush to decide his future and smiling his way through questions from the media about a possible opening at Red Bull.
The Mexican will be replaced by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel at the team that becomes Aston Martin next season, with only a limited number of seats now open for 2021. Haas and Alfa Romeo are two of the teams that are yet to confirm their line-ups, as are AlphaTauri and Red Bull. And it was that latter team that Perez was quizzed about in Germany.

Asked if he’s let Red Bull know he's available, Perez replied: “I’m sure they know! Right now it’s just a matter of keeping all the doors open and being patient as well. I’m in no hurry, so let’s see what comes up in the next couple of weeks.
“Right now, I’m fully focused on this season with my team, I think we’ve made some really good progress, we’re getting my season back on track and I just want to deliver weekend after weekend. We are close to third in the constructors’ championship so that is the focus right now. The future is a matter of time and to be honest, I don’t have a lot more to say.
“I’m trying to work around the options that are out there. I don’t really have anything to report at the moment. I hope in the coming weeks things will get a bit clearer and then I will know what will happen with my future. I’m pretty relaxed about it, as I said,” he added.
This weekend Perez will receive new upgrades that were due for Russia but delayed thanks to a crash for Lance Stroll in Tuscany – which should give him a boost for the Eifel Grand Prix. He still finished fourth in Russia and added that the result showed that his fortunes are finally turning, especially after he missed two races due to Covid-19.

“I think we’ve been pretty unlucky in the last couple of races with how everything has panned out, missing two races as well. Now, all of a sudden, my season gets a bit more on the way and we are close to where we should be. I’m looking forward to scoring weekend after weekend,” he concluded.
Perez is one of seven current drivers to have started a Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, finishing eighth here for McLaren in 2013. Perhaps the new Racing Point upgrade and his stellar run of form could combine for an even better finish in 2020.
