It was the stuff of dreams for Sergio Perez as he ended a 190-race wait for a Formula 1 Grand Prix victory at Sakhir last Sunday – but how did he go from last place on Lap 1 to first at the chequered flag?
After a first lap crash involving Perez, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen – that saw the latter two drivers out of the race on the spot – Perez was right at the back of the pack and even facing the wrong way. But from there he pulled off a miraculous recovery to take a hugely popular victory under the lights.
“I hope I’m not dreaming, you know, because I dreamed so many years of being in this moment. Ten years, ten years it took me. Incredible. I mean, I don’t know what to say, you know,” was how Perez explained his emotions after the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Relive his historic victory by watching the video above, which analyses each key point of Perez's brilliant drive to the top step of the podium.
