Betting odds for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix – Who looks set to star in the final Sprint of the season?

F1 moves on to Sao Paulo and the Interlagos circuit for the penultimate round of the 2022 season, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen looking to add yet another victory to his tally, while rivals Ferrari and Mercedes aim for what would be morale-boosting wins of their own. Let's look at how the odds are shaping up ahead of the action in Brazil.

The odds for the win
Unsurprisingly, with the record for the most victories in an F1 campaign under his belt, Verstappen is the firm favourite to triumph in Brazil and make it 15 wins from 21 races – sitting comfortably clear of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in the odds list.
Another victory would also keep Verstappen on track to better the overall winning percentage from any given season (the 72.22% held by seven-time champion Michael Schumacher with his 13 wins from 18 back in 2004).

However, given that the Sprint format is being deployed at Interlagos for the second year running, we only need to look back to last year’s event – when penalised top qualifier Hamilton recovered from P20 to P1 across the 100km dash and main Grand Prix – for an example of what’s possible.

The odds for who will be fastest in qualifying
While Verstappen is out on his own in terms of the odds for victory, the odds for qualifying are an entirely different matter – the Dutchman and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc seen as joint pole position favourites.
Indeed, it is Leclerc as a driver (nine) and Ferrari as a team (12) who have achieved the most poles so far this season, ahead of Verstappen (six) and Red Bull (seven).
Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz are outside bets to join the battle with team mates Verstappen and Leclerc, with Mercedes pair George Russell and Lewis Hamilton another step back, despite the Silver Arrows threatening an upset in Mexico.

The odds for a podium finish
With 16 podium finishes from 20 races so far, Verstappen is all but nailed on to bag another this weekend, with Leclerc and Hamilton also hotly-tipped to add some late-season silverware to their cabinets.
Perez, Russell and Sainz are all viewed as less likely podium finishers than their respective team mates, but the odds are naturally much tighter than the aforementioned victory and pole stakes.
McLaren’s Lando Norris is the only driver outside the top six in the standings to claim a podium this season, having come home third at Imola, with the odds backing either him or Alpine team mates Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon as the most likely to spring a surprise.

The odds for fastest lap
Verstappen leads the way in the fastest lap standings with five to his name so far this season, meaning one more will earn him the DHL Fastest Lap Award for 2022.
However, Perez, Leclerc and Russell all have three apiece, meaning successive fastest laps from any of them in Brazil and Abu Dhabi would pull them level with Verstappen after 22 rounds.

What are the odds for which team will take the most points?
Although the main constructors’ prize has long been settled in Red Bull’s favour, there are several exciting scraps to be settled across the final two races of the season.
Mercedes have closed to within 40 points of Ferrari in the race for P2 in the standings, with 103 still up for grabs, and the two teams cannot be separated on the odds charts this weekend.

It’s the same story for Alpine and McLaren, who are split by just seven points as they battle it out for P4, while sixth-placed Alfa Romeo have found themselves only four clear of Aston Martin.

Over the last four Grands Prix held at Interlagos, the Safety Car has made an appearance in three of them, including the early stages of the 2021 race.
